Maldives Marks its Golden Jubilee in the Tourism Industry
The Maldives, a haven of 1192 reef fringed islands, beaches, luxurious over-water villas, beautiful corals, and azure waters aims to mesmerize 1.6 million tourists in the country’s golden jubilee year.
The Maldives has yet again raised the bar high in the world of tourism after winning its 4th prestigious award in the Indian ocean category in the World Travel Awards 2021 which is globally considered the ultimate hallmark of industry excellence
The country has welcomed a total of 639,418 tourists between the month of January and May 2022 surprisingly Russian tourists who had maintained their position as proud top Maldives tourism top source market now rank third place, as revealed by the ministry of Maldives. an astonishing amount of 79,000 tourists have been recorded arriving from India alone. India sits in the top 10 markets list contributing 12.9 percent of the total arrival count, while the United Kingdom comes second contributing 12.7 percent recorded in the same time span.
Ukraine, due to the ongoing war has unfortunately lost its place in the top 10 source market list.
Talking only about the month of May Maldives has seen a total of 62,628 arrivals, which is a straight-up 74.6 percent growth compared to the statics of 2021. comparing overall statics with that of 2021 ministry states a 50.2 percent increase which is however 8.3 percent less than what was recorded in 2019.
This year the Maldives marks 50 years of breathtaking performance in the tourism industry and as revealed by Dr.Abdulla Mausoom, Minister of tourism Maldives aims to win the World-leading Destination award to reserve a special place in the Hall of fame for the country.
