MMPRC markets the Maldives in South Africa with unique activities

Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives) has announced a combined marketing campaign in South Africa with Thompsons Holidays from April 2023 to July 2023. The campaign includes numerous distinctive activities such as digital media, social media, outdoor advertising, and B2B events. The campaign aims to make the Maldives a top-of-mind destination for all potential long-haul travelers from the South African market, as well as to increase arrival figures in all sectors.

Thompsons Holidays is one of South Africa’s largest tour operators, with skilled people, excellent service, high-quality products, and a passion for travel. They offer over 40 years of experience in providing the greatest, carefully selected assortment of holidays to the most sought-after places, including the Maldives. A campaign with a renowned brand like Thompsons Holidays will raise the Maldives brand in the South African market.

This campaign will have 18 activities. Notably, the campaign will run a travel agency reward system to encourage sales to the Maldives. Thompsons Holidays will also launch an outdoor advertising campaign and a specialized social media campaign promoting the Maldives as a favorite beach break location.

In 2021 and 2022, the Maldives received 16,347 and 14,840 visitors from South Africa, respectively. As of January 2023, 643 tourists had landed in the Maldives from this market. In 2021, the arrival figure from this market exceeded the pre-pandemic arrival level, indicating a great potential for growth in the South African market. During our involvement in WTM Africa this April, we saw a similar opportunity for expansion. As a result, MMPRC is committed to expanding the Maldives’ position in this sector.
